The decision about building the plant was made

The decision regarding building of the “Castings and Forgings“ plant as the fundamental plant to supply heavy machining industry plants with large- sized castings, forgings and welded parts was made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Soviet Union on 17 December 1960.

1962 the construction of the plant started

The construction of the plant, based upon the project designed by Ukrgipprotiazhmash and approved by Donetsk Economy Agency on 23.12.1961, started in July 1962.

1964 launching into service

The first set of unit No 4 (pattern-making workshop and warehouses) was launched into service on 29 December 1964.

New steel melting workshop

The start up site of the unit No 1 (steel melting shop) including 50 tons Electric Arc Furnace along with pouring and charge preparation facilities was launched into service.

The name of the plant was changed

Considering the area of expertise of the plant in supplying the products for power industry the Ministry of power industry changed the name of the plant to Kramatorsk plant “Energomashspetsstal” on 6 July 1979.

The first export order

The first export order- the turbine for electric power station in Korea was delivered.

15 000 tons forging press was launched into service

15 000 tons forging press with the manipulator was launched into service on 7 August 1982.

1000 000W was produced for Balakovskaya nuclear power station

In November 1985, for the first time in Soviet Union the solid cast turbine housing of 1000 000W was produced for Balakovskaya nuclear power station.

The highest production achievements

  • 204 000 tons of stell;
  • 29 000 tons of castings;
  • 73 000 tons of forgings.

The ladle furnace unit was launched into the service.

The development of production facilities for:

  • the power industry (generators, wind generators, generator rotors and turbines)
  • ship building industry (propeller shafts)
  • nuclear power industry (shells, bottom parts).

“Energomashspetsstal” celebrated its 45 anniversary!

In the heat treatment shop was placed into operation completely new differential heat-treatment site used for treatment of support shafts of rolling mills.

The stuff of all enterprise celebrated festively during the “Day of Machine builder” the 45-years anniversary of the plant:

  • on the festival were present plant’s partners from Ukraine, countries near and far abroad, hereby the particular attention was given to the previous managing directors of the plant.

Completion of the big modernization

  • According to the plan of technical reinforcement was launched into operation new facilities of arc-steelmaking, forging, metallurgical accessories , mechanical treatment shops.
  • installed new heating and heat-treatment furnaces.
  • installed equipment used within honing process of central holes in generators blanks. Accomplished foundry shop modernizing. In the heat-treatment chop were placed into operation following list of equipment.
  • bell type furnace which applied for preliminary for preheating and tempering of the shafts in the differential treatment site, heating and tempering of the shafts during hardening process.
  • thermal stability testing unit for rotors of high-pressure vessels. 08.09.2010 in the premises of arc-steelmaking shop was done unique ingot with weight 355 t.

Completion of the big modernization

  • Arc-steelmaking shop successfully casted the first pilot hollow ingot with weight 69,6 t.
  • in the foundry shop were began to use furan cold-forming mixtures, mastered of energetically body castings of difficult shape. A casted body parts of such type nobody along CIS region able to produce.
  • PJSC “EMSS” successfully come through qualification to have right to perform quality control for equipment of nuclear power plant;
  • in the heat treatment shop launched into operation the new quenching sprayer for quenching procedure of heavy weight rotors.
  • in the mechanical treatment installed and launched into operation deep-hole drilling lathe mod FT 110-S/1250x18000 CNC for boring and drilling work pieces with weight till 250 t.

Ingot with weight 415 t.

Arc-steelmaking shop successfully casted the first in Ukraine ingot with weight 415 t.

Forging ingot weight 415 t.

The first time in the world of specialists EMSS produced large-capacity solid-forged billet chabauty for swage of ingots weighing 415 t.

Inspection system

Quality assurance department staff and members of the mail plant laboratory are certified by The main industry certifying agency to perform non-destructive, destructive and measuring inspection methods. Quality assurance department is supported by the wide range of advanced analytical equipment and techniques to ensure comprehensive quality inspection. Quality control methods and the equipment used for the quality inspection are approved by the relevant authorities.

The main laboratory is split into 6 branches which perform the following activities:

  • X-ray spectrum analysis;
  • chemical analysis;
  • testing of mechanical properties;
  • metallographic analysis;
  • molding materials analysis;
  • process optimization.

The main laboratory is accredited by the metrological authority of Ukraine to perform various inspection types including measurement inspection, inspection and testing of carbon steel, alloy steel, cast iron, ferrosilicon, ferromanganese, ferrochrome, inspection of carbon and alloyed steel castings and forgings etc.

Chemical analysis methods include:

  • extractive photometric analysis;
  • gravimetric analysis;
  • titration analysis;
  • potentiometric analysis;
  • spectrophotometric analysis;
  • photometric analysis;
  • X-ray spectrum analysis;
  • infrared analysis.

Testing of mechanical properties include:

  • tensile test performed at regular and increased temperatures;
  • impact test performed at regular increased and reduced to 80OC temperature;
  • hardness test;
  • bending test.

Non-destructive inspection methods by means of:

  • ultrasonic flaw detectors;
  • magnetic particle detectors;
  • dye penetrant test equipment.

Metallographic examination allows to establish:

  • the ferrite and austenite grain size;
  • the visual grain size;
  • microstructure.

Metallographic examination allows to establish:

  • with magnetic analyzer KPM-Z-MA.
